Style Guide
Sessions are supposed to be about celebrating your achievements for your graduation, capturing the excitement of your upcoming wedding, or creating timeless images of your close knit family- NOT stressing about wardrobe! So, empty your Amazon cart, delete your Pinterest board, and reference this style guide!
Go Big or Go Home
If you want that 'WOW' image, your wardrobe choice is step one; showing up in jeans and a nice shirt won't cut it. If this is the vision you have for your session, tell your husband to break out the slacks and put the ball cap away! If you are wanting a dreamy look, choose pastel colors, off-whites, and soft prints to achieve that look; Now is the time to pull out that white dress and have your family in grey or tan. Wanting something more bold? Go buy that Red dress you've been wanting and put your hubby in Dark slacks like my favorite family The Lieu's.
Keep it Simple
Dressing up isn't your thing? That is okay! You do not have to come out in a 3 piece suit to have quality images. Wait just a minute; Don't pull out the ball cap and flip flops just yet. When choosing outfits, remember this phrase: Coordinate colors DON'T match colors! Layers are another great way to make your photos POP. So, add some ruffles, a scarf, or a vest to your wardrobe. The Pursley Family did a great job coordinating and adding a vest to give the image a little texture.
Less is More
Looking to book a family session, but not trying to break the bank on outfits; I got you! Remember, less is more. Start by choosing one to two colors to coordinate with. Try and stay away from busy patterns as it can be distracting. I would recommend ladies choosing your outfit first, then work around your outfit for the rest of the family. The Adams family did a great job coordinating outfits but staying within the two color rule.
The Final Touch
Don't let your upcoming session attire overwhelm you and take all the fun out of it. If you follow these simple guidelines, you will have those Pinterest looking images at the tips of your fingers. Regardless of what outfits you wear, don't forget the final touch: Your smile!
